RUGGERFEST 2020 will be postponed due to growing concerns with COVID-19. Please read our directors’ statement below.
Ruggerfest and COVID-19:
Dear players, supporters, and fans:
We first want to thank you for your outstanding support for our annual Ruggerfest tournament and club as a whole. This year’s tournament marks 40 years of showcasing women’s rugby at all levels, and we’ve received outstanding, widespread support.
Over the past week, there has been increasing concern regarding COVID-19 and its effects on the rugby community and our clubs. On March 12, Major League Rugby announced a 30 day suspension of all matches. The Mid Atlantic Conference (MAC) followed suit and suspended all conference games through April 6th, and the Capital Geographic Union made a similar decision regarding friendly competitions. Practice decisions are currently left up to clubs, and recently the Furies announced schedule reforms of our own.
The DC Furies have decided to postpone the 40th Annual Ruggerfest tournament, originally scheduled for April 18-19, 2020 to a later date. This decision was made in efforts to support the actions taken by the rugby community thus far, and to lessen the chance of broader community transmission.
We are currently looking at dates in the early fall, but this situation is evolving and we do not know for certain what the future holds. As we know more, we will act accordingly and provide updates. We appreciate all who continue to support our mission, and look forward to our eventual Ruggerfest tournament.
